The Father of Modern FPS's: Doom

So now we finally get to the cream of the crop, i.e actual blogposts. I'll start off with something I hold close to my heart -videogames. This post will essentially be me fangirling about one of the most important games of all time for the gaming industry, Doom.

For the uninitiated, Doom is a game from the FPS (First Person Shooter) genre of videogames. It was released in 1993 by a small group of game developers who would go on to create id software, a gaming company. It is quite amazing to realise that one of the most important videogames of all time was developed by an initial development team of just five people: John Romero, John Carmack, Adrian Carmack(No he isn't John Carmack's brother), Kevin Cloud and Tom Hall. Doom is considered to be one of the pioneers of 3D games in general despite the game actually not being 3D(it can be considered 2.5D).

Now enough about the boring historical stuff lets get into the really good stuff. Doom has a very simplistic story(though a bit confusing). You play as the protagonist (who is unnamed but has been christened "Doomguy" by the playerbase and later on as DoomSlayer) who works for a corporation named the UAC on their base on Mars(I did say its weird).

The purpose of this particular base on Mars is to research methods for inter-dimensional teleportation technology(you know where this is going -_-). As usual Human beings screw up and somehow a portal to Hell is opened(from which a copious amount of hellspawn is now entering the Mars base). You, the protagonist punches, shoots and blows up stuff to get back to earth. Now bear in mind you find out this information for the most part from external sources. In the game all that happens is you basically plop onto the first level and proceed to kick ass.
Doomguy that handsome devil.

Now one would think that if you were against a legion of demons that you would hide, cower and wait for help from someone... not Doomguy. Doomguy is the biggest chad that I have ever seen in a videogame, he is exceedingly brutal and destroys the demons with no mercy(I mean they are DEMONS). I suppose Doom can be considered a horror game... for the demons that you are fighting. I happened to come across Doom the other day and decided to finally give the game a shot and I'm absolutely flabbergasted that I hadn't tried it before. The speed with which you move, the pace at which you rip and tear through Hell's denizens... It's no wonder that Doom is often touted as the most Christian game ever.

I highly recommend playing the game (and it basically has the easiest system requirements).Speaking of system requirements Doom is also one of the most memed games of all time, simply because its insanely low system requirements allow it to be played on the most asinine things.

Just to give you an idea of how wide its scope is it has been played on printers, pregnancy tests, a bevelling machine(didn't even know what that was until now),graphics calculators, cameras and so much other stuff. The game did cause an eruption of parents reeeing about how the game was satanic but like I mention above you literally murder hellspawn.

Well that'll be it from me for today.
Arrivederci
Aby
