2020: What a year eh?

Image
Today is the 31st of December and we sit at the cusp of a new year and a new decade, its funny to think that 2020 breezed by in a such a flurry. One day we'll probably  tell grand tales of those days when we... sat at home, watched netflix and gained 70 pounds... I suppose they won't be grand tales after all. As I read and talk with other people I hear more and more about how 2020 was the worst year of all time or something to that effect. I would consider it to be quite the contrary actually, chiefly due to two points. First of all, the worst year wasn't 2020,it was AD 536. People had to face a volcano eruption(the worst of all time) which caused an incredible amount of ash to descend reducing visibility to tuppence, seasons merged, temperatures dropped ,crops wilted and died. This also set the stage for the outbreak of the bubonic plague in AD 541 which, well... wasn't exactly pleasant. Fancy having this bloke come to treat your incessant coughing and diarrhea? Second

Carolers and Catastrophe

First thing's first Merry Christmas y'all, this year went by in a flash but we'll talk about that at new year's(Need to save the sentimental stuff for then). You guys ever see a little ole' movie called "The Grinch?" Well since there are two versions I should be more specific of which version I'm talking about but in reality both of them follow essentially the same idea. Green tall guy-hates christmas-wants to ruin christmas for everyone else-decides to engage in ridiculous yet strangely successful plan for the same-sees the innocence of some random kid(who probably mispelt Santa as Satan) and decides to be good and embrace the spirit of Christmas. The movies are based off the original books by Dr Seuss. Its one of those classics that most people seem to watch during Christmas season. I could get along with this guy Now when I said that the Grinch hates all things Christmas related naturally pesky carolers are also included, and this is where I feel a

The Pied Piper of 7-A

Yeah that's right two posts in a row!  The title might intrigue you eh? Well I shall of course explain, I studied in a pretty good school in Doha,Qatar for quite a while, indeed I was sad to leave said school when I finally had to move back home but I still do cherish the memories. One of those memories I fondly remember was when I started a REVOLUTION IN MY CLASS.   Okay I'm being a bit too melodramatic but let me explain. Now back in my old school we had these "Value Education" periods, the idea was to guide children morally to become good, upstanding citizens of modern society. Slight problem though, it was incredibly boring to sit through and for the most part we would just goof off maybe complete some pending work(very rare) or, god forbid it... a teacher would sub in to take some "pending" portions -_- We'd have a text which we'd read through with stories with some sort of moral in them, and we were supposed to read these drab stories and become

Going to watch a film

Ah movies, what a wonderful medium of entertainment, its essentially entertainment packed into a couple of hours. They have the ability to make us think, laugh, question ourselves(and humanity) and are quite inextricable to human culture at this point. It is quite funny to think that the first motion picture ever recorded was in 1888. Its been around 132 years now, but considering that human beings have only been around since about 300,000 years it is quite amazing that in such a relative short span of time movies have become such a huge deal. Now when thinks about watching a movie the first thing that comes to many people's mind is cinema theatre. That gigantic hall with rows upon rows of seats, full of expectant spectators, all in front of a gigantic screen. Many people love the social aspect of going to the movies, you know enjoying a movie with their friends and being immersed in the experience and its often been represented as an apt choice for dates(information completely source

Trying to keep an open mind in the modern world

Aloha! Season's greetings to all of you, we are nearing the end of this oh so wonderful year that is 2020. Looking back it does seem like everything went by in a flash, doesn't it? I suppose that's the way it always is. So much happened so fast this year, most of these incidents made us all die a little bit inside but hopefully, they will make us more resilient as we enter another year. Among the pandemic, forest fires, the Beirut blasts, and the like (Most of us have probably forgotten about the last two) I noticed that while this year hasn't seen much in infrastructural development we all had tremendous development as far as our psyche is concerned. We all sat in our houses isolated from the outer world for the most part, as we waited in the hope that the world would stop burning and we learnt a lot of stuff we wouldn't have otherwise. We realised that we took a lot of stuff from our daily lives for granted, most of us suffered from the lack of social life(after

Geniuses being jerks

Image
Ah, it's been a while, hasn't it? With the volley of tests being thrown at me, I didn't get much time to churn out any posts for my blog but I finally managed to get some time to type one out. The title says it all, Geniuses being jerks(eloquent isn't it?). A genius is defined as a person with exceptional intellectual, creative, or natural ability. Geniuses make great strides in their respective fields and we are certainly indebted to them and their contributions to society. However it is often that we can observe some geniuses getting quite a bit egotistical once they realize they achieve success, this steadily develops into a sort of superiority complex leading them to believe that they are infallible and that they can do no wrong. Nevertheless, they do end up doing more good than bad and we remember them as pioneers of their field. I shall utilize an example to prove my point about this trend. Electricity... a ubiquitous resource that we can't imagine our daily
